    November 2, 2010

Doom and gloom continues as grim economic data, government cuts, and a depressed housing market give us little to celebrate in the construction industry. Yet all is not lost as constructionbytes.com is determined to inject a little bit of cheer into the proceedings through the power of music!

    Construction Music

After much scouring of our record collections, and an X-factor style contest amongst ourselves (not pretty), we have put together our ultimate playlist of construction industry themed songs for your enjoyment.

Feel free to add your own in the comments section!

    For the Architect …

    1. An Architect’s Dream – Kate Bush (because they all have one, for every project)
    2. All My Great Design – The Walkmen
    3. A Design for Life – Manic Street Preachers
    4. The Ballad of the Architect Angel – Bruce Springsteen
    5. Drawing Crazy Patterns – Texas (for the magical time before time & cost is mentioned)

    Obscure Bonus Track:

Money Doesn’t Matter – 2Mex & Life Rexall (no amount of shouting by the QS can distract the Architect from his mantra)

For the Construction / Project Manager …

    1. It’s Too Late – Mystery Jets (for the reactive PM)
    2. Before It’s Too Late – The Streets (for the proactive PM)
    3. Programme – Nirvana
    4. Communication Breakdown – Led Zeppelin
    5. If I Could Turn Back Time – Cher (for the ‘lessons learned’ session)

    Obscure Bonus Track:

    Planning Spontaneity – Jamie T

For the Quantity Surveyor / Cost Manager …

    1. Made to Measure – The Hoosiers
    2. No Money – Kings of Leon (the standard response to any request)
    3. When I Survey – Tim Hughes
    4. Why Do I keep Counting? – The Killers
    5. Money’s Too Tight to Mention – Simply Red (for when that contingency is running low)

    Obscure Bonus Track:

Die Spons – Zinkplaat (a reference to beans was too easy)

    For the Construction Client …

    1. Keep The Customer Satisfied – Simon & Garfunkel
    2. Indecision – Eagle-Eye Cherry (not any clients we’ve worked with obviously – sir)
    3. Change Your Mind – The All-American Rejects
    4. Paid My Money – Ben Folds Five (so where’s my finished building?)
    5. You Never Told Me – James Carter (err … we think we probably did)

    Obscure Bonus Track:

Everything for Nothing – Gustav Bertha (let the expectation management begin)

    For the Contractor/Subcontractor …

    1. Bricks And Mortar – Editors
    2. If I had a Hammer – Trinni Lopez
    3. Jesus Was a Carpenter – Cheek (Can’t argue with that)
    4. Getting Paid – Nicky Manaj (it’s never easy but gets harder the further down the chain you go)
    5. The Landscape Is Changing – Depeche Mode

    Obscure Bonus Track:

Opportunities (Lets Make Lots of Money) – Pet Shop Boys (for when the client requests a change on a D&B job!)

For the Health & Safety Officer …

    1. Health and Safety – Beans On Toast (yes, you read it correctly)
    2. Risk Assessment – Plastikman (the H&S officers favourite activity)
    3. High Visibility – Chevelle
    4. Caution – Bob Marley & The Wailers
    5. Bend Your Knees – 6ix Toys

    Obscure Bonus Track:

It’s a Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door – Underoath

There are some golden oldies in there as well as some more recent tracks and no doubt some you’ve never heard of. They’re all (probably) available for purchase at Itunes and Amazon.
